Jane Doe

13.7 billion years ago, when the matter of the universe was concentrated into a single incredibly tiny point, our journey began. We were born from a speck amidst the darkness. We bloomed when no one believed in us, a lotus flower reaching for the light. One second after the Big Bang, protons and neutrons, you and I floated, nomads in the universe. Remember me, I guided you to the light, to the prospect of life.

13.7 billions years later, skies are blue, clouds are white and the universe keeps expanding but we are no longer one. Love is merely love song we hear on the radio. Louis Armstrong claims it’s a wonderful world, but is it really? We have borders, religion, and money, all that divides us. We are the same age, breathe the same air, walk on the same soil but only glass divides us as I peer in to the coffee shop. All my rights stripped from head to toe, no freedom of speech, only plagued with hatred.

Hunger radiates from my bones and skin. I lick my dry lips and my eyes prey on your sandwich. You have a degree in one hand and a cheque book in the other hand yet you see the world in black and white. Open your eyes, let your soul gravitate to the love ,but you turn the other cheek. You are a prisoner of your own greed, buried in notes with faces of shadowy figures who promise a brighter future. I have only a pen and paper and the ability to dream in colour. Isn’t it ironic how life can change?

We cross paths in a supermarket. Security approaches me. Have I violated any laws? I am still in the market with a dollar in my ripped pocket, just enough for the packet of crisps. You want to cure me, but I can’t change who I am even if wanted to.

No longer can we fight the urge to be together. Some theories state that universe is not expanding but shrinking, thereby creating the big crunch so the laws of science harmonize with cycle of life .  Together, we are destined to make a change.
