BIC all set to host National Race Day

Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) hosts tomorrow an action-packed National Race Day in Sakhir.

The event is set to feature two highly regarded local racing series taking to the track, namely the BIC 2,000cc Challenge and the Bahrain Superbike Championship (BSBK).

The 2,000cc Challenge will be the fourth round of its 2015/2016 season this weekend while the BSBK will be making a rousing debut in their first-ever campaign.

Action on track is scheduled to get underway at 9.45am with the BSBK Free Practice. Qualifying for the bikers follows at 11.20am.

The inaugural BSBK race is then set to flag off at 1.30pm and race two will be held at 2.50pm. Both sprints will take place over 11 laps.

For the 2,000cc Challenge, competitors will be out on track for Practice at 10.35am. Qualifying is at 11.55am and the weekend’s first 12-lap race is scheduled to flag off at 2pm and the second following at 3.20pm. All are welcome to attend and watch both series in action with tickets are available at the gate.

Former champion Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa (104 points) heads into the 2,000cc event as the current championship leader after the first three rounds, followed by Alex Longden (89) in second and Hussain Karimi (80) third, while defending champion Shaikh Hamad bin Isa Khalifa (65) is in fourth place.

The BSBK is a first-of-its-kind series ever to be held at BIC with all competitors racing in identical Ducati 899 Panigale sport bikes, with riders from countries such as the UK, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain.
