Car bomber loses appeal

The mastermind behind a blast that occurred in 2014 near the Kingdom’s biggest mall has had his sentence upheld by the High Appeals Court.

The appellant was among six men sentenced earlier to 15 years each in the case. The Bahrainis used a stolen car to cause blast near the City Centre Bahrain on July 19, 2014.

A gas cylinder kept in the car exploded after firebombs were hurled at it by the defendants, according to court documents. Prosecutors said that a robbed number plate was fixed on the car, in a bid to mislead investigators. However, five of the culprits were arrested shortly after the explosion.

The police had received a tipoff about the defendants, according to court documents. The mastermind behind the attack said that he, along with his co-conspirators, stole a car and placed another number plate on it on the same day of the attack to deceive policemen.
