Riyadh: Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthi movement announced Thursday that it has launched a ballistic missile attack on Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport, raising tensions with Saudi Arabia as violence resumed in Yemen.
According to Saudi civil aviation authorities, one Sudanese citizen was killed and eight people were injured in the attack on King Khalid International Airport. At Abha airport, two female residents, one Moroccan and one Algerian, were killed, while 28 others were wounded. Saudi authorities said they were coordinating with security agencies to assess the damage and protect passengers and airport workers.
The current escalation comes as Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces continue their drive on the Houthis near the key Bab el-Mandeb Strait and the Red Sea coast. Meanwhile, the Houthis have claimed responsibility for attacks on Saudi targets, including the King Khalid International Airport. On Thursday, the organization claimed to have launched a ballistic missile toward the Riyadh airport, but Saudi Arabia did not immediately corroborate the latest allegation.
