Dubai: The UAE Cabinet has approved a National Ecotourism Policy, which aims to boost the country's tourism industry while protecting ecosystems and natural resources.

The policy aims to boost the UAE's status as a top worldwide destination for sustainable tourism by promoting experiences that relate to the country's natural and cultural heritage.

The policy will direct authorities' efforts to conserve environmentally vulnerable areas while also generating sustainable tourist products and experiences. It will also encourage increased participation from local communities while protecting cultural uniqueness.

The effort includes ideas for an ecotourism smart platform, stronger collaborations among government agencies, the commercial sector, and civil society, and updated legislation for managing ecotourism sites.

The Cabinet's decision is part of the UAE's broader environmental initiatives. The country currently has 55 natural reserves, and recent conservation projects include land rehabilitation, tree planting, and increased green cover.
