41 Killed in China Landslide After 30 More Victims Identified

Chongqing: The death toll from the landslide that struck Pengshui County in China's Chongqing municipality has risen to 41 after authorities identified 30 more victims recovered from the disaster site.
Officials said DNA testing confirmed the identities of the additional victims, following days of search and recovery operations after the landslide buried homes and other buildings on July 17.
The landslide swept through a residential area at the foot of a mountain, engulfing several buildings along a riverbank. Rescue teams had earlier reported 11 deaths while searching for dozens of missing people, warning there were no signs of survivors.
Authorities said around 18,000 cubic metres of rocks and debris crashed down the mountainside, with the largest boulder measuring about 3,000 cubic metres.
The disaster follows another deadly landslide in Gansu province earlier this month that killed 21 people, highlighting the growing risk of landslides during China's rainy season.
