US President Trump Warns of ‘Very Strong Military Action’ if Iran Talks Collapse
US President Donald Trump has warned that he is prepared to authorize "very strong military action" against Iran if ongoing diplomatic efforts fail, while insisting he still prefers a negotiated solution to the crisis.
In an exclusive interview with Axios, Trump said he decided to pause planned US military strikes to allow diplomacy another opportunity, describing the move as giving negotiations "a little bit of room."
The president indicated that the current diplomatic efforts are focused on reopening the Strait of Hormuz and returning to broader discussions on Iran's nuclear programme. He stressed that while diplomacy remains his first choice, the United States is prepared to respond forcefully if negotiations break down.
Trump said the temporary pause followed requests from countries involved in mediation efforts and described the decision as a strategic move rather than a concession. He maintained that the United States had lost nothing by allowing talks to continue.
The comments come as tensions between Washington and Tehran remain high after weeks of military confrontation. Trump is also expected to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House, with Iran expected to dominate discussions on regional security and future policy.
While diplomatic channels remain active, Trump's remarks underline that military options remain on the table should negotiations fail to produce a breakthrough.
