Flash Flood Kills 10 At Tourist Site in China

Beijing: A flash flood triggered by sudden heavy rainfall struck a popular tourist campsite in northwestern China on Sunday, killing at least 10 people and injuring 23 others.
The mountain torrent hit the Shuangshimen Scenic Area in Weiyuan County, Gansu Province—located approximately 1,200 kilometers southwest of Beijing. Renowned for its natural stone arches, alpine meadows, and mountain streams, the location was packed with summer campers when localized downpours struck the rugged terrain.
Emergency response teams mounted a swift search and rescue operation at the scenic spot, successfully saving 174 trapped individuals and rushing the injured to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
The disaster occurred as local authorities across Gansu issued urgent weather alerts due to widespread rain, while large swaths of southern China simultaneously braced for flooding associated with Typhoon Noul.
