Abu Dhabi: Embraer's global aircraft supply chain might soon include aeroplane components built in the UAE, according to a new strategic agreement between Brazil's Embraer and Abu Dhabi sovereign investor Mubadala.
The partnership could enable Al Ain-based Strata Manufacturing to become a Tier 1 supplier to Embraer, allowing it to manufacture and supply aerostructures, sophisticated materials, and other aircraft components for the Brazilian manufacturer's global manufacturing programmes.
The cooperation, signed at the Farnborough International Airshow, also includes aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul, workforce development, and aerospace research.
Sanad, situated in Abu Dhabi, could potentially provide Embraer aircraft repair services throughout the Gulf Cooperation Council, South Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa.
The agreement also provides opportunities for Emirati engineers and aerospace professionals to get specialist training, knowledge transfer and work placements at Embraer facilities.
The move represents a potential increase of the UAE's involvement in the global aviation supply chain, with locally manufactured components eventually making their way onto aircraft operated around the world.
