Xi Reaffirms China's Support for Belarus During Lukashenko Visit

Beijing : Chinese President Xi Jinping has reaffirmed China's support for Belarus' sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity during talks with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in Beijing.

The meeting came days after Lukashenko held discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin and amid heightened tensions between Belarus and Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has previously said he believes Russia is seeking greater support from Belarus for its war in Ukraine.

According to China's Foreign Ministry, Xi said the two countries should strengthen strategic communication, deepen bilateral ties and continue advancing cooperation for the benefit of both nations. He also said China was willing to provide assistance for Belarus' development within its capacity.

Lukashenko described relations between Belarus and China as being at a "historic peak", saying the growing partnership reflected a long-held vision of closer cooperation between the two countries.

The visit underscores the strengthening ties between Beijing and Minsk as both countries seek to expand political and economic cooperation amid shifting geopolitical tensions.
