Tehran: Iran announced on Monday that it has held the first meeting of a joint committee with Oman to discuss the management of the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically important waterway for global oil shipments, following Tehran's tentative agreement with Washington to halt the recent Middle East crisis.

According to Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi, the meeting was held in Muscat, where officials discussed current concerns concerning the strait and shared opinions on its future administration under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, as well as the coastline states' sovereign rights.

The meeting is part of broader attempts to reduce tensions in the Gulf and build a framework for the safe and stable management of one of the world's most significant maritime routes.
