Taipei: A container ship registered in Singapore and operated by Taiwan's Evergreen Marine was struck by an unidentified object off the coast of Oman while travelling through the Strait of Hormuz, the firm reported on Friday. The Ever Lovely suffered minor damage to the bridge windows but successfully completed its journey across the key waterway.

Evergreen stated that the ship was on the path advised by the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) when the incident occurred approximately 3.6 nautical miles off Oman's Khawr Naiwah. The crew found no injuries, the cargo was unharmed, and the engine and navigation systems were fully operational, enabling the ship to continue its journey safely.

The incident occurred one day after UKMTO reported that an unidentified projectile had struck a commercial vessel close to the Omani shore, raising new concerns about maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz. Moreover, the incident prompted the International Maritime Organization (IMO) of the United Nations to temporarily halt its ship escort and evacuation program in the area while it reevaluated safety circumstances.
