Beijing: Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing arrived in China on Monday for a 5 day state visit aimed at strengthening trade and economic relations with Beijing, his first trip since taking office in April.
During his visit, he is likely to interact with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, and senior legislator Zhao Leji. The discussions are expected to focus on trade, investment, and broader strategic cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.
Since Min Aung Hlaing's military occupation in 2021, Myanmar has been subject to restrictions and diplomatic isolation. The visit, which comes after his previous journey to India, is a reflection of the military-backed administration of Myanmar's aspirations to strengthen regional involvement and revive commercial links.
China is still one of Myanmar's biggest commercial partners and a significant investor in energy and infrastructure projects, so the partnership is essential to Naypyidaw's goals for regional connectivity and economic development.
