Norway's Crown Princess Placed on Lung Transplant Waiting List

Oslo: Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit has been placed on the waiting list for a lung transplant due to worsening chronic pulmonary fibrosis, the Royal House announced on Friday. The 52-year-old royal is currently being monitored at Rikshospitalet in Oslo while she awaits a suitable donor organ.

Her medical team determined the transplant was necessary after her health deteriorated, following a long-standing battle with the rare lung condition first diagnosed in 2018. Chronic pulmonary fibrosis causes progressive scarring of the lung tissue, severely impacting respiratory function over time.

The Royal House confirmed that Crown Princess Mette-Marit has officially entered the active waiting list, and her upcoming official duties have been canceled for the foreseeable future.

Her husband, Crown Prince Haakon, will continue with his planned schedule while the family requests privacy during her medical treatment and recovery period.
