Protests Over US Ebola Facility in Kenya Kill Two as Work Continues Despite Court Order

Nairobi : The United States has continued preparations for a controversial Ebola quarantine facility in Kenya despite court orders suspending the project and growing public opposition.
Officials said around 20 flights carrying medical equipment, specialist staff and construction personnel have arrived at a military base in Nanyuki, where the 50-bed facility is being built for Americans potentially exposed to Ebola in Central and East Africa.
The project has sparked protests in Kenya, with at least two people reported killed during demonstrations against the plan. Critics argue the facility would shift the burden of managing Ebola risks from the United States to Kenya.
A Kenyan court has extended a suspension on the project and ordered the government to disclose details of its agreement with Washington. However, work on the site reportedly continues as authorities and U.S. officials seek to resolve legal objections.
President William Ruto has defended the facility as part of Kenya's broader Ebola preparedness strategy, while opponents question its purpose and the government's handling of the project.
The facility is intended to quarantine Americans exposed to Ebola but not showing symptoms. Patients who develop the disease would be transferred elsewhere for treatment, according to U.S. officials.
