Oregon: Legendary Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Rick Adelman has died at the age of 79, the National Basketball Coaches Association announced on Monday.

Over a prolific 29-year NBA coaching career, which included 23 seasons as a head coach, Adelman established himself as one of the game's all-time greatest minds. He amassed 1,042 regular-season victories, ranking tenth in NBA history.

Adelman's storied career featured prominent coaching tenures with the Portland Trail Blazers, Golden State Warriors, Sacramento Kings, Houston Rockets, and Minnesota Timberwolves. He notably guided the Trail Blazers to the NBA Finals in both 1990 and 1992.

Recognised for his humility and offensive innovation, Adelman was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2021 and received the Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023. His son, David Adelman, currently continues the family's basketball legacy as the head coach of the Denver Nuggets.
