Kuwait, IAEA discuss nuclear safety

Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah has held talks with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, during an official visit to the country on Monday.

The meeting in Kuwait City highlighted cooperation between the Gulf state and the UN nuclear watchdog, with discussions focused on the peaceful use of nuclear energy, as well as strengthening international standards for nuclear safety and security.

During the talks, Sheikh Jarrah praised the IAEA’s technical and professional role in supporting global efforts to promote safe and peaceful nuclear applications. He also reaffirmed Kuwait’s support for international frameworks aimed at preventing nuclear risks.

Both sides reviewed areas of existing cooperation and explored ways to further strengthen ties between Kuwait and the agency. Regional developments were also discussed during the meeting, according to officials.

Following the discussions, the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister hosted a luncheon in honour of Mr Grossi and his accompanying delegation.

The visit comes amid ongoing international focus on nuclear governance and regional stability in the Middle East.
