Ukrainian drone attacks hit Russian tanker and oil depot

Moscow: Ukrainian drones struck a tanker at the Russian port city of Taganrog and an oil depot in Armavir overnight, Russian authorities said on Saturday, as cross-border attacks continued to affect regions near the Ukraine conflict.

Officials in the southern Rostov region said a fire broke out on a tanker and in the port area of Taganrog following the attack. The blaze was later extinguished, and authorities reported no oil spill. Two people were injured.

In the neighbouring Krasnodar region, a separate drone strike triggered a fire at an oil storage facility in the industrial zone of Armavir. Local officials said the fire had been brought under control and no casualties were reported.

Russian authorities said air defence systems intercepted large numbers of drones overnight, with dozens reportedly shot down over the Rostov region alone. Attacks were reported across several areas bordering eastern Ukraine, where fighting remains intense.

The latest strikes highlight the growing use of long-range drone attacks by both sides as the war continues, with energy facilities, transport infrastructure and military-related targets increasingly coming under attack far from the front lines.

Authorities in Taganrog have extended a local state of emergency that was introduced earlier this week as officials continue to assess the impact of repeated drone threats on the city and surrounding areas.
