The United Arab Emirates called for dialogue and de-escalation as the path toward sustainable peace and prosperity during an open debate at the United Nations Security Council on upholding the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.

Speaking during the session, UAE Ambassador His Excellency Mohamed Abushahab said lasting stability cannot be achieved through confrontational policies or ideological extremism, stressing the importance of diplomatic engagement and efforts to reduce tensions.

The ambassador also highlighted what he described as illegitimate Iranian attacks over the past three months, saying the incidents targeted civilian infrastructure and threatened freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

He warned that such actions pose serious risks to regional security and international trade routes, particularly in one of the world’s most strategically important waterways.

Ambassador Abushabab further stressed that the credibility of the international system depends on the willingness of the global community to enforce international rules and respond when violations occur.

He added that the UN Security Council carries a central responsibility in safeguarding the principles of the UN Charter and ensuring international peace and security are protected.
