Washington DC:The United States has officially imposed strict sanctions on Ramadhani Kingai, a high-ranking Tanzanian police official, for his direct involvement in severe human rights violations against political activists.

The U.S. State Department announced the blacklisting on Thursday, targeting the regional police commander for the torture and cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment of opposition figures.

According to U.S. officials, the punitive measures stem from Kingai's actions while serving as the head of the police force's regional crimes unit. In that role, he was directly implicated in the torture and abuse of high-profile political opposition members and human rights defenders. Under these newly enacted sanctions, Kingai and his immediate family members are completely banned from entering the United States.

The State Department emphasized that this decisive action reinforces Washington's commitment to holding human rights abusers accountable and supporting democratic freedoms in Tanzania.
