India-Africa Summit in New Delhi Postponed Amid Ebola Outbreak Concerns

New Delhi: India and the African Union have agreed to postpone a major summit that was scheduled to take place in New Delhi next week, after growing concern over an Ebola outbreak in parts of Africa. The decision was taken as a precaution due to the worsening public health situation.

The India-Africa Forum Summit, which brings together leaders from India and African nations to strengthen political and economic ties, was expected to be held later this month in the Indian capital. Officials said the move was made to ensure safety and allow full participation of African leaders during the health crisis.

The Ebola outbreak in Africa has raised international concern, prompting stricter monitoring and travel precautions in several countries. India said the postponement reflects caution and coordination with African partners as they deal with the situation.

Both India and the African Union emphasized that the decision was mutual and aimed at supporting ongoing efforts to manage the outbreak. They also indicated that the summit will be rescheduled, though a new date has not yet been announced.

The summit is an important diplomatic platform for India and Africa, covering areas such as trade, investment, energy, technology, and development cooperation. It is part of a long-standing effort to deepen India-Africa relations.

India has also been increasing health surveillance and preparedness measures in response to the outbreak, while maintaining that no Ebola cases have been detected in the country so far.
