Myanmar military claims recapture of Thai border town

Naypyidaw: The Myanmar military has claimed full recapture of the strategic border town of Myawaddy following weeks of intense clashes with armed ethnic groups and anti-regime resistance fighters.
A junta spokesperson announced that state forces successfully re-established administrative control over the critical trade hub, which sits directly on the frontier with Thailand.
The military operation escalated after resistance forces, led by the Karen National Union, had previously seized control of major military bases and government buildings in the area.
The conflict had temporarily paralyzed cross-border trade and forced thousands of civilians to flee across the river into neighboring Thai territory.
While the military has raised the national flag to signal its territorial victory, local independent sources report that sporadic fighting continues in the surrounding rural outskirts. Regional security analysts note that maintaining long-term control over the fractured border zone remains a significant logistical challenge for the junta.
