French teen gets 15-year jail term for killing teacher

PARIS: A French teenager was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Friday for the fatal stabbing of his Spanish teacher in February 2023. The defendant, who was 16 at the time of the attack, was found guilty of premeditated murder following a trial held behind closed doors due to his age.
The incident occurred during a lesson at a private Catholic school in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, where the student attacked 52-year-old Agnès Lassalle with a long kitchen knife. Psychological evaluations presented during the trial indicated that the teenager suffered from mental health issues and claimed to have been ‘possessed’ by a voice commanding him to kill.
