UK Investigates Arson Attacks on Jewish Sites in London Amid Fears of Foreign-Linked Campaign

London :British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has vowed to bring those responsible for a series of arson attacks on Jewish sites in London to justice, as authorities investigate a possible coordinated campaign.

The incidents, mostly in northwest London, include fires and attempted arson attacks on synagogues and community buildings over the past month. The latest attack on Saturday caused minor smoke damage at Kenton United Synagogue in Harrow, while another property linked to a Jewish charity was targeted in nearby Hendon.

Police said no injuries have been reported, but counter-terrorism officers are leading the investigation amid concerns of an organised pattern of attacks.

The Metropolitan Police said they are examining whether the incidents may be linked to Iranian-linked proxy groups. A group calling itself Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiya (HAYI) has reportedly claimed responsibility for several attacks, according to monitoring organisations.

UK Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis warned that a “sustained campaign of violence and intimidation” against the Jewish community appears to be intensifying, urging urgent action to prevent further escalation.

Police said some attackers may be motivated by financial incentives rather than ideology, but officials have not ruled out state-linked involvement as tensions in the Middle East continue to rise.

Authorities have increased patrols in Jewish neighbourhoods across London while investigations continue into multiple arson attempts, including earlier incidents in Finchley and Golders Green.
