Antalya: Turkey has expressed strong support for a Pakistan-led diplomatic effort aimed at extending US–Iran negotiations and preventing a return to conflict as the current ceasefire nears its end.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said there is broad international backing for continuing talks after the first round ended without agreement. He warned that no one wants a new war to break out once the ceasefire expires next week.
Speaking at a diplomacy forum in Antalya, he said he had discussed the situation with Pakistani officials and remains hopeful that the ceasefire will be extended to allow negotiations to continue.
Fidan said there is significant global pressure on both sides to keep the diplomatic process alive, adding that the likelihood of continued talks is strong if escalation is avoided.
He also noted that Iran has indicated a final agreement is still far off, but said both sides appear willing to continue engaging.
The Turkish foreign minister further warned that wider regional tensions remain high, accusing Israel of attempting to take advantage of the situation in Lebanon despite the existing ceasefire there.
