Trump says he is ‘strongly considering’ pulling out of Nato over lack of support in Iran

U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested in a recent interview that the United States is considering withdrawing from NATO, citing the alliance’s refusal to provide military support for the ongoing war against Iran.
The friction stems from NATO members' reluctance to deploy military assets to the Strait of Hormuz. This strategic waterway, essential for global oil shipments, was effectively closed by Iran following U.S. and Israeli strikes. While the President has demanded a collective military response to reopen the shipping lane, European allies have remained hesitant to commit forces to the theater, leading to a deep diplomatic rift.
When asked during the interview if he would reconsider U.S. membership in NATO after the war, Trump was blunt about his intentions. ‘Oh yes, I would say beyond reconsideration,’ Trump said. “I was never swayed by NATO. I always knew they were a paper tiger, and Putin knows that too, by the way.”
The President criticized what he characterized as the alliance’s lackluster military support for his administration's campaign against Iran. By labeling the organization a ‘paper tiger,’ he suggested that the defensive alliance is far weaker than it appears and no longer serves American interests in the current conflict.
