Venezuela Orders Week-Long Closure Amid Power Shortages and Heatwave

Caracas: Venezuela has declared a week-long break for public-sector workers as extreme heat worsens an ongoing energy crisis.
Interim President Delcy Rodríguez announced that government offices and the education sector will remain closed from Monday to Friday as part of a nationwide power-saving plan.
Authorities said the country has experienced more than 45 days of unusually high temperatures, increasing electricity demand and straining an already fragile power system.
The government has frequently imposed energy-saving measures in recent years, including reduced working hours and school closures, to manage recurring power shortages.
Officials confirmed that essential services will continue to operate during the shutdown.
The move underscores the deepening impact of Venezuela’s energy challenges, which have been exacerbated by climate conditions and long-standing infrastructure issues.
