Trump: Iranian Leaders “Afraid” to Admit Talks

U.S. President Donald Trump said that Iranian leaders are privately seeking negotiations with the United States, despite publicly denying any interest in a deal.

Speaking at a fundraising dinner, Trump dismissed statements from Iran’s leadership earlier in the day, which suggested they had rejected a US proposal and were unwilling to engage in talks.

“They are negotiating,” Trump said, contradicting Tehran’s official stance.

He further argued that Iranian officials are hesitant to admit this publicly due to internal pressures. “They want to make a deal so badly, but they’re afraid to say it because they think they’ll be killed by their own people,” he stated.

Trump also claimed that Iranian leaders fear potential consequences from the United States if tensions escalate.

In a pointed remark about leadership in Iran, Trump added: “There’s never been a head of a country that wanted that job less than being the head of Iran.”

The comments come amid ongoing tensions between Washington and Tehran, with no official confirmation from Iranian authorities regarding any active negotiations.
