Israel Launches Strikes on Hezbollah Targets in Lebanon
The Israeli army said on Monday that it carried out a precise operation targeting senior leaders of the Hezbollah in Beirut.
The military also announced that a Hezbollah commander was targeted in southern Lebanon as part of the operation.
According to Israeli officials, the Chief of Staff approved a new offensive plan following gunfire and attacks launched from Lebanon. The Israeli army said Hezbollah is responsible for the latest escalation.
The Israeli military also issued large-scale evacuation warnings for several towns and areas in Lebanon.
Strikes Follow Hezbollah Rocket and Drone Attacks
Israeli airstrikes hit several locations across Lebanon late Sunday and early Monday. The strikes came after Hezbollah announced it had launched rockets and drones toward Israel.
Hezbollah said the attacks were in response to the killing of Ali Khamenei during a joint U.S.-Israeli strike on Iran.
In a statement, the Israeli army said its forces began striking Hezbollah targets across Lebanon after the group fired projectiles toward Israel.
First Attack Since 2024 Ceasefire
The rocket and drone launch marks the first attack by Hezbollah on Israel since a ceasefire agreement reached in November 2024, which ended more than a year of hostilities between the two sides.
