Iran’s Attacks Threaten Gulf Stability, Joint Statement Says
A joint statement issued by the United States, Gulf countries and Jordan strongly condemned Iran’s recent attacks targeting civilian facilities in the Gulf region.
The statement said Iran’s actions threaten regional stability and described the targeting of civilians and countries not involved in hostilities as “reckless behavior.”
The declaration came after the Gulf ministerial meeting held on Saturday evening.
The US, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and Jordan emphasized that they stand united in defending the citizens and sovereignty of the six Gulf states. They also reaffirmed their joint commitment to maintaining regional security.
According to the statement released early Sunday, the Iranian attacks caused damage to civilian infrastructure and put civilians at risk.
The parties also described the strikes as “unjustified” attacks on sovereign territories.
The joint statement further stressed the right of self-defence in response to Iranian attacks and strongly condemned what it called random and reckless Iranian strikes across the region.
