Tel Aviv: Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a landmark speech to the Israeli parliament (Knesset) on 25 February 2026, emphasising the protection of civilian lives and condemning all forms of terrorism and violence against non-combatants. His address marked the first time an Indian prime minister has spoken before the Knesset and came during a two-day official visit to Israel.

In his remarks, Modi extended “deepest condolences” to the families of those affected by past terror attacks, including the October 7, 2023 Hamas assault, which he described as a “barbaric terrorist attack.” He stressed that no objective or ideology can justify the killing of civilians and reiterated India’s long-standing, uncompromising policy of zero tolerance for terrorism.

Modi also drew parallels with India’s own experiences with terrorism, referring to attacks such as the 26/11 Mumbai strikes, in which Israeli nationals were among the victims. He highlighted that terrorism destabilises societies, disrupts development, and damages trust across communities, calling for coordinated global action against such threats.

Alongside his firm words on violence and civilian protection, Modi underscored the “vital partnership” between India and Israel, noting deepening ties in areas such as security, technology, and trade. He received a standing ovation from members of the Knesset and was also honoured with the parliament’s highest award by Speaker Amir Ohana.

While Modi’s address firmly supported Israel’s security concerns, he also endorsed efforts for a lasting peace in the region. He backed the United Nations Security Council–backed Gaza Peace Initiative, describing it as a pathway toward a just and durable peace for all peoples in the Middle East.
