UN Chief Slams Israeli West Bank Land Move
The Secretary-General of the United Nations has strongly condemned the Israeli Government’s decision on 15 February to resume land registration procedures in Area C of the occupied West Bank.
According to a statement issued by the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General, the move follows a cabinet decision taken in May 2025 and could result in the dispossession of Palestinian property owners. The UN warned that the measure risks expanding Israeli control over land in the area.
The Secretary-General stressed that such actions, along with Israel’s continued presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, are destabilizing and unlawful under international law. He recalled the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, which reaffirmed the illegality of such measures.
He called on the Israeli Government to immediately reverse its decision, warning that current developments on the ground are undermining the prospects of achieving a two-State solution.
The UN chief further reiterated that all Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, have no legal validity and constitute a violation of international law and relevant UN resolutions.
The Secretary-General urged all parties to safeguard the path toward lasting peace through a negotiated two-State solution in line with Security Council resolutions and international law.
