Indirect Iran–U.S. Nuclear Talks Resume in Switzerland This Week
Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, departed Tehran on Sunday for Geneva, Switzerland, to lead a diplomatic and technical delegation in the second round of renewed nuclear negotiations with the United States, the Iranian Foreign Ministry confirmed.
According to the ministry, “Indirect Iran–U.S. nuclear talks will take place on Tuesday under the mediation and good offices of Oman.”
During his visit, Araghchi is expected to meet with his Swiss and Omani counterparts, as well as Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, and other international officials.
The talks follow the resumption of nuclear negotiations in Muscat on February 6, several months after previous talks collapsed. The earlier negotiations broke down amid heightened regional tensions, including a 12-day conflict triggered by an Israeli bombing campaign against Iran last June.
The renewed discussions come as the U.S. has warned Tehran of potential military action and deployed an aircraft carrier group to the region, following Iran’s recent deadly crackdown on anti-government protests.
In the initial Muscat talks, Araghchi led the Iranian delegation in indirect discussions with U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, senior adviser and son-in-law of then-U.S. President Donald Trump.
