Cairo: Five children from the same family were found dead inside their home in Egypt’s Qalyubia governorate early Friday after inhaling gas that leaked into the residence, according to Egyptian security and medical sources cited by local media.
The incident occurred in the village of Mit Asim, located in the Banha district, where the siblings aged between eight and 18 years were discovered unconscious in their bedrooms. Reports indicate the victims included four sisters and one brother.
Emergency responders, including ambulances and civil defence teams, were dispatched to the house after authorities were alerted. However, medical personnel confirmed that the children had already died by the time help arrived, with preliminary findings pointing to fatal gas inhalation as the cause.
Security officials cordoned off the area while investigators from the Banha police and criminal investigation units examined the scene. No signs of foul play were detected, and officials said the gas had spread throughout the house while the children were asleep.
The bodies were transported to hospital for forensic examination under the direction of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which has opened an investigation to determine the circumstances of the leak. After autopsies were completed, prosecutors authorised the release of the bodies for burial and ordered detectives to carry out further technical checks.
