Abu Dhabi: Etihad Rail has announced full details of the UAE’s national passenger rail network, marking a major milestone in the country’s transport and infrastructure development. The network will connect 11 cities and regions across the UAE through strategically located stations, forming the nation’s first fully integrated passenger rail system. The project is designed to enhance connectivity between the Emirates while providing safe, reliable, and efficient mobility for citizens, residents, and tourists, supporting economic growth, domestic tourism, and an improved quality of life.
Earlier this year, Etihad Rail revealed the first four main passenger stations in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah. The company has now announced seven additional stations in Al Sila, Al Dhannah, Al Mirfa, Madinat Zayed, Mezairaa, Al Faya, and Al Dhaid, which will be commissioned in phases. Eng. Mohammed Al Shehhi, Chief Projects Officer at Etihad Rail, said station locations were selected in coordination with local authorities to ensure seamless access from key residential, industrial, and economic hubs across the country.
Commenting on passenger operations, Azza AlSuwaidi, Deputy CEO of Etihad Rail Mobility, said the passenger rail network will serve as a cornerstone of the UAE’s national transport ecosystem and builds on the company’s proven success in operating the national freight rail service since 2023. The network has been equipped with a next-generation fleet and advanced technologies, developed in partnership with leading international operators to ensure high standards of safety and reliability. Passenger trains will feature modern interiors, ergonomic seating, onboard Wi-Fi, and power outlets, with each train capable of carrying up to 400 passengers, serving up to 10 million passengers annually. Passenger services are expected to begin in 2026, while Etihad Rail continues progress on its high-speed rail project, which will cut travel time between Abu Dhabi and Dubai to 30 minutes and add an estimated Dh145 billion to the UAE’s GDP over 50 years.
