In her first interview since the US military intervention in Venezuela, Nobel Peace Prize winner and opposition leader María Corina Machado expressed strong support for the capture of Nicolás Maduro, describing the action as a significant victory for freedom and human dignity. Speaking on Fox News' "Hannity," Machado clarified that she has not maintained direct contact with US President Donald Trump since October 10, 2025, the day her Nobel Prize was announced. Despite her endorsement of the US operation, her political future remains uncertain; President Trump recently dismissed the possibility of working with her, claiming she lacks sufficient domestic support and respect within Venezuela.
Machado, who left Venezuela last month to accept her award in Norway, stated her intention to return home as soon as possible. Her comments come at a moment of profound political transition, as Vice President and Oil Minister Delcy Rodríguez was sworn in as interim president following Maduro’s abduction. While Machado remains a prominent international figure for the opposition, the recent comments from the White House and the rapid installation of a new interim government have left the question of Venezuela’s long-term leadership and the role of the traditional opposition in significant doubt.
