Saudi Meteorology Confirms No Impact from Ethiopian Volcano Ash
Recent weather observations and analysis indicate that the volcanic ash released from Ethiopia’s Haile Gobi volcano is not expected to affect Saudi Arabia’s atmosphere, the National Center for Meteorology (NCM) confirmed.
Hussein Al-Qahtani, NCM spokesman, stated that the center is closely monitoring cloud movements and weather conditions around the clock using advanced national systems. “Current indicators do not show any trajectory of volcanic ash toward the Kingdom’s airspace. Weather monitoring is ongoing, with continuous tracking and updates,” he explained.
Al-Qahtani added that appropriate measures would be implemented should any significant weather event occur, and the center will continue issuing alerts and updates as necessary.
The Haile Gobi volcano, located in Ethiopia’s Afar region within the Great Rift Valley, erupted on Sunday morning after remaining dormant for thousands of years. Satellite images captured a dense ash column rising over 10 kilometers into the sky, which was visible across regional monitoring systems.
