Qatar announced on Tuesday that it will hold talks with Hamas negotiators and Turkish officials to discuss the Gaza plan unveiled by US President Donald Trump, with a Qatari foreign ministry spokesman stating that Hamas would study the proposal "responsibly."
Trump’s plan, revealed on Monday in Washington, calls for a ceasefire, the release of hostages by Hamas within 72 hours, the group’s disarmament, and a gradual Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, followed by the establishment of a post-war transitional authority overseen by Trump.
Qatar and Egypt delivered the plan to Hamas on Monday. “The Hamas negotiating delegation promised to study it responsibly,” said Majed al-Ansari, a spokesman for Qatar’s Foreign Ministry, during a press conference. He added that another meeting involving the Turkish side would take place on Tuesday.
The discussions follow earlier talks on Monday between Hamas representatives and mediators from Egypt and Qatar in Doha. “It is still too early to speak about responses, but we are truly optimistic that this plan is comprehensive,” Ansari noted.
Qatar also expressed readiness to push for a truce in Gaza following an Israeli apology for its unprecedented strike targeting Hamas leaders in Doha earlier this month.
Speaking on security assurances, Ansari said the US guaranteed Qatar’s safety and that Israel committed not to carry out further attacks on the country. “The security assurances and commitments offered by President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu were very clear and under the guarantee of the US president that Qatar will never be attacked,” he said.
Qatar, together with Egypt and the United States, has led efforts to broker a comprehensive ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, holding several rounds of diplomacy in Doha.
