Nepal Users Face Facebook and Instagram Login Issues

Kathmandu, Nepal – Users in Nepal are currently experiencing login problems on Facebook and Instagram following the government’s enforcement of a ban on unregistered social media platforms.

Many users reported receiving error messages such as “hmm… something went wrong,” “This site can’t be reached,” and “Safari can’t connect to the server” when trying to access these platforms via web browsers.

“I tried logging in to Facebook via Safari and Google Chrome, but it’s not working anymore. For now, the mobile app is still functioning, but I believe it will also go down soon,” said Monika Malla, a university graduate.

During the outage, users turned to alternative platforms such as WhatsApp, Twitter, and YouTube, which remained operational as of 10:45 PM (NPT).

The Government of Nepal announced the block on Thursday, targeting 26 social media platforms operating without registration. The decision came after a meeting chaired by Communication and Information Technology Minister Prithivi Subba Gurung, with officials from the ministry, Nepal Telecommunication Authority, telecom operators, and internet service providers.
