Turkey has officially severed economic ties with Israel and closed its airspace to Israeli aircraft, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced on Friday during a Gaza-focused session of the Turkish Grand National Assembly.
“We have completely cut off our trade with Israel. Turkish ships will no longer be allowed in Israeli ports, and Israeli aircraft are barred from entering our airspace,” Fidan said.
Fidan accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza over the past two years, disregarding fundamental human values. He rejected any proposals to deport Palestinians from the territory, calling such plans “null and void.”
Warning that Israel’s continued attacks could ignite the entire region, he described the atrocities in Gaza as among the darkest chapters in human history. Fidan emphasized that Palestinian resistance will challenge oppression and reshape the course of history.
Turkey and Israel share a long history of diplomatic and economic relations, established in 1949, with periods of cooperation in trade, military, and intelligence. Relations began to deteriorate in the 2000s over Israel’s policies toward Palestinians but were partially restored in the mid-2010s.
