At least 841 people have been executed in Iran so far this year, the United Nations said on Friday, condemning what it called a “systematic pattern of using the death penalty to intimidate the population.”
UN rights office spokeswoman Ravina Shamdasani said that in July alone, 110 people were executed—more than double the number executed in July last year. She noted that this follows a significant rise in executions during the first half of 2025.
The UN has called on Iranian authorities to halt the use of the death penalty and respect human rights.
