UN Chief Condemns Israeli Plan for New West Bank Settlements

The United Nations Secretary-General has strongly condemned Israel’s recent approval to build over 3,400 housing units in the E1 area of the occupied West Bank.

In a statement from his spokesperson, the Secretary-General said that Israeli settlements in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, violate international law and go against UN resolutions. He warned that the new project threatens the possibility of a two-State solution, as it would divide the northern and southern parts of the West Bank and disrupt the territorial integrity of Palestinian areas.

The Secretary-General called on Israel to immediately stop all settlement activities and fully respect its obligations under international law, including following the UN resolutions and the International Court of Justice’s advisory opinion issued on 19 July 2024.
