An Air India flight from Kochi to Mumbai had a scare on Monday after it briefly veered off the runway while landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport amid heavy rainfall.

Flight AI2744, an Airbus A320neo, skidded off course just after touchdown, causing damage to the engine cowling and several of the aircraft's tyres. Despite the incident, the plane managed to taxi safely to the gate.

All passengers and crew were safely evacuated from the aircraft with no injuries reported.

In an official statement, an Air India spokesperson said:

"Flight AI2744, operating from Kochi to Mumbai on 21 July 2025, experienced heavy rain during landing, resulting in a runway excursion after touchdown. The aircraft taxied safely to the gate, and all passengers and crew members have since disembarked. The aircraft has been grounded for checks. The safety of passengers and crew remains our top priority."

Airport officials confirmed that emergency protocols were followed, and normal operations resumed shortly after the aircraft was moved for inspection.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident.
