The Government of India has declared a Pakistani official posted at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi persona non grata, ordering the diplomat to leave the country within 24 hours. The expulsion comes in response to the official’s involvement in activities that Indian authorities say were “not in keeping with his official status.”
In a formal diplomatic protest, India’s Ministry of External Affairs summoned the Chargé d’Affaires of the Pakistan High Commission and issued a demarche conveying the decision. During the meeting, the Pakistani envoy was sternly reminded that all diplomats and officials stationed in India are expected to respect their diplomatic privileges and refrain from misuse of their status.
The government has not disclosed specific details of the activities that led to the expulsion but reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on violations of diplomatic norms.
