The Executive Board of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has officially endorsed Bahrain’s Country Programme Document (CPD) for the period 2025-2029, reaffirming its commitment to the Kingdom’s sustainable development goals.

The CPD outlines a strategic framework that aligns UNDP’s initiatives with Bahrain’s national development priorities, as defined in Vision 2030 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, which was signed in December 2024. The programme is designed to drive prosperity and sustainability by fostering diversified, inclusive, and private sector-led growth while also enhancing governance, strengthening the rule of law, and promoting human rights and civic engagement.

Asmaa Shalabi, UNDP Resident Representative in Bahrain, highlighted the significance of the newly approved CPD, stating, “The CPD for Bahrain is a crucial milestone in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and fostering inclusive and sustainable growth in the Kingdom. Over the next five years, this document will serve as a guiding framework to ensure impactful interventions that support national development priorities, with a strong emphasis on innovation, digitalization, and gender equality.”

Since 1978, UNDP has played a key role in supporting Bahrain’s national progress by assisting in the implementation of various development initiatives. On a global scale, UNDP operates in approximately 170 countries and territories, working to eradicate poverty, reduce inequalities, and build resilience to sustain long-term development. As the UN’s primary development agency, UNDP continues to play a pivotal role in assisting nations in achieving the SDGs.

The endorsement of Bahrain’s CPD signals a strengthened partnership between the Kingdom and UNDP, setting the stage for impactful and sustainable development efforts in the years ahead.
