Turkish Airlines Celebrates Milestone with 500th Aircraft

Turkish Airlines, known for operating one of Europe’s youngest fleets, has marked a historic milestone with the unveiling of its 500th aircraft, named “TK Family”, at Istanbul Airport. Joining the fleet at the end of 2025, the aircraft features a special livery adorned with photographs of the airline’s 100,000 employees and retirees, celebrating the spirit of unity and solidarity that has driven the carrier since its founding in 1933 with just five planes.

The launch event saw wide participation from Turkish Airlines executives, former senior officials, employees and retirees, prominent figures in the aviation sector, as well as children of martyrs from all 81 provinces of Türkiye. The cast of the airline’s iconic Iğdır (When You Dream) commercial also joined the celebration, highlighting the human story behind the airline’s growth.

Prof. Ahmet Bolat, Chairman of the Board and Executive Committee of Turkish Airlines, said:
"Our 500th aircraft is more than just a fleet addition; it represents 93 years of dedication, determination, and a shared vision. Since 2003, we have accelerated our growth from 65 aircraft to a fleet that now serves 356 destinations across six continents. Twelve years ago, when we filmed our ‘When You Dream’ commercial with 247 aircraft, the vision of reaching 500 seemed ambitious. Today, seeing it realized is a proud moment for the entire Turkish Airlines family. This milestone is not an endpoint but the beginning of the 'Second 500' era, as we aim to expand to 1,000 aircraft by 2036 and strengthen Türkiye’s position as a global aviation hub."

As part of the celebrations, the “TK Family” aircraft performed a ceremonial flight, tracing the number 500 in the sky under flight number TK500. The flight carried children of martyrs and their families, along with Turkish Airlines executives, former senior officials, and employees.

The event also showcased aircraft representing key milestones in Turkish Airlines’ fleet history, alongside a full-scale replica of the airline’s first plane:

  • 100th Aircraft – August 2006

  • 200th Aircraft – November 2012

  • 300th Aircraft – February 2016

  • 400th Aircraft – March 2023

  • 500th Aircraft – December 2025

Continuing its investments in modern aircraft to enhance operational efficiency and passenger experience, Turkish Airlines’ 500th aircraft symbolizes not only its current strength but also its ambition for sustainable growth and a future fleet of 1,000 aircraft by 2036.
