Bahrain’s elite athlete Violah Jepchumba triumphed in the women’s race of the Meia Maratona Internacional da Paz, held in Angola.
The event is also known as the International Peace Half-Marathon, and Violah completed the 21.1-kilometre distance in a winning time of one hour 10 minutes and 11 seconds.
Violah finished with a comfortable lead ahead of the Kenyan pair of Sophy Jepchirchir and Abigail Mutai.
Jepchirchir had a time of 1:10:33 to claim the silver medal, while Mutai won the bronze in 1:12:52.
Violah’s winning time was far from her personal best in the half-marathon of 1:05:22, which is also the current Asian and Bahraini record for the event.
She clocked that mark in 2017 in Prague.
To go along with her victory, Violah pocketed $6,000 in prize money for first place.
The other podium-placers also came away with financial awards.
