Kinks powers to victory to lift Bapco Cup

Kinks lifted the Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) Cup yesterday in the main race of the day at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Zallaq. The Isa Mahmood Al Seddiqi-owned and Hesham Al Haddad-trained won the seven-furlong, BD5,000 event for imported horses by a half-length ahead of the closest competitor, with renowned Irish jockey Neil Callan in the saddle.

Coolagh Forest of MKAR Racing was the runner-up for Haider Ebrahim and George Wood, while Maystar was third for Al Afoo Racing, Mohammed Saeed and Cameron Noble. Present at yesterday’s races was Cabinet Affairs Ministry undersecretary and Bahrain Olympic Committee vice-president His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa and BOC secretary general Mohammed Al Nusuf, among other high-ranking officials.

There was also a BOC Cup to be won yesterday, along with five other Bapco Cups. Obeyan 1777 of KHK Racing was the BOC Cup winner, which came in a WAHO first race over seven furlongs with a BD5,000 prize.

It was the second of Hesham Al Haddad’s four wins yesterday. Rosie Jessop was the winning jockey. Victorious-owned horse Tuwaisan 1762 finished as the runner-up for trainer Yousif Taher and jockey Anas Al Siyabi, while Al Hamdany 1746 came third for Al Riffa, Yousif Alboainain and Ebrahim Nader.

Hesham Al Haddad-trained horses were also triumphant in the day’s sixth and third races, both offering a Bapco Cup. In race six, featuring a distance of seven furlongs with a BD3,000 prize, Forbidden Land took first place for owner Hasan Mefareh Alajmi with Hussain Makki in the saddle.

Shebil Aljazira for Al Mohamediya Racing, Osama Hashim and Neil Callan came second, with Light Angel third for Al Afoo Racing, Mohammed Saeed and Lee Newman. In race three over 11 furlongs with a BD3,000 prize, Campolina took the win for Abdulla Fawzi Nass while ridden by Rosie Jessop.

Retort claimed second place for owners Victorious and trainer AM Smith while saddled by Julio Garcia, while Good News was third for M and E Racing, again trained by AM Smith and ridden by Edinson Rodriguez.

Elsewhere yesterday, Powertrain won the Bapco Cup in race five for Al Adiyat Racing, AM Smith and Charles Bishop; Toulouse Le Plot won the Bapco Cup in rae four for Victorious, AM Smith and Edinson Rodriguez; and Deema clinched first place and the Bapco Cup in race two for HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, James Naylor and Phil Dennis.
