Thousands across Kingdom mark Bahrain Sports Day

Sports lovers across the Kingdom of Bahrain organised events yesterday marking Bahrain Sports Day 2020. The activities included all kinds of sports and physical activities and they involved a massive number of participants representing ministries, state departments, private companies, public and private schools, clubs, sports associations, youth centres, and many others.

Yesterday’s events marked the fourth edition of Bahrain Sports Day, and it was held under the theme “Get Ready…Go!” Bahrain Sports Day was organised in line with the edict of His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister, to allocate a half workday at ministries and state departments to mark the occasion and to pave a way for employees to engage in sports activities. The Ministry of Youth and Sport Affairs organised bowling and ice skating events for members of its staff at Funland Centre.

The Bahrain Football Association held activities at their pitches in Riffa, including a three-kilometre walk and sixa-side football. BFA secretary general Ibrahim Al Buainain was on hand. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ staff, officials, ambassadors and diplomatic missions accredited to the Kingdom of Bahrain participated in a number of sports such as tennis, volleyball, cycling, walking and fitness exercises. Assistant Foreign Minister Abdulla bin Faisal bin Jabur Al Doseri also honoured a number of athletes for their achievements as members of Bahrain’s national teams.

Meanwhile, accredited missions to the Kingdom of Bahrain were honoured for participating in the annual sports day. Bahrain Airport Services had a walkathon in Arad near Bahrain International Airport. Management and staff members took part. Bahrain Sports Day’s main objectives are to promote the ‘sports for all’ concept and to raise awareness on the importance of sports for individuals and society
