SRK buys T&T in Caribbean Premier league

Mumbai

Bollywood star and Kolkata Knight Riders owner Shah Rukh Khan has bought a team franchise in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

Khan's company Red Chillies Entertainment Pvt Ltd, along with co-owners Juhi Chawla and husband Jay Mehta, invested in CPL's Trinidad & Tobago franchise and will be a part, starting this season. The tournament is scheduled to run from June 20 to July 26. Khan's move to own an overseas franchise is a first of its kind among all Indian Premier League owners since its inception in 2008.

Confirming the news, Khan said,  “This is in line with our vision to expand globally. We are thrilled to become part of the cricketing tradition of Trinidad & Tobago.

“The passion for franchise cricket in the Caribbean is evident with the success of CPL and we hope to bring all the best practices of KKR to the T&T franchise,“ Khan added.

The success of the Caribbean cricketers in IPL has been beneficial for CPL, where Twenty20 specialists like Dwayne Bravo, Chris Gayle, Dwayne Smith, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell and Darren Sammy, among others are a huge hit.

SRK has now joined Hollywood stars Mark Wahlberg and Gerard Butler, who also own franchises in the CPL. Wahlberg bought reigning champions Barbados Tridents since the tournament's inception while Butler owns the Jamaica Tallawahs.
